I think Oompa is very wise here. My heart goes out to you and your dear brother and his wife.

The bestest doughnuts in the world are in two little old farming towns I lived in. Yummy! It's almost worth the 14 hour drive back up to Michigan for a maple glazed one!
We can't seem to find a decent doughnut place here in the South...Georgia or Alabama. Dang it. You'd think we would have lost some more weight by now!

Some help please- advice
by leftbelow ini have a problem.
i knew this would come up but what has me questioning myself is where some of my resistance is coming from.. my wife and i have a baby on the way in nov. (a little girl) anyway my mom immediately started applying pressure to me to go back to meeting and of course to attend the convention.
that is not the surprise.

Don't go! Run away!
As well intentioned as your wife and mil may be, they have no idea of the inner workings and how this would only make it worse and prolonged. And a danger to your daughter!
Take your stand against your mother's guilt and cunning. It will be better for your family. If not, she could later say, "You know it's the truth. Why else would you have come to the convention if you knew it to be a lie? Deep down, you doubted your leaving."
Run away! Run away screaming if you have to...but run friend! Run!

Surprise, My MIL Got Baptized This Weekend
by OnTheWayOut inin recent months, my sister-in-law (sister's sister) got reinstated after about 14+ years out.
i speculated that this may have been because my mother-in-law may want to get baptized.
mil has gone to meetings faithfully for more than 20 years, but never did a lick of field circus and never moved toward baptism because her work related to babylon the great.

Life just keeps getting more interesting...doesn't it? She sure will have a rude awakening on what is expected from her as a baptized member as opposed to side watcher! I bet her head spins a bit from it when they hound her for her time for the month, or she hears the real gossip going on in the car group! Her rose colored glasses have been taken off.

Apostasy ????
by KAYTEE inapostasy, definition,.........to leave ones religion.. if apostasy is regarded as serious in the eyes of the borg.
and it is.. why was my wife, who, before coming a witness some 35 years ago, who was a roman catholic, was not treated then, as she would be treated now, if she (heaven forbid) were to rejoin the clan after having left for app.6years.. back then they did not put her at the back of the hall for a good year, before accepting her, even though she was in principal, apostate.. why the two standards.

Kaytee...that is a thought provoking question! Really, it is quite funny to look at their reasoning in that light. She was an apostate. How would they know she wouldn't "apostacize" from her next religious experience? Why didn't she have to prove herself?
Well, they needed a warm body and needed to up the figures and get some of that cash flow.
They were concerned for her spiritual state, of course. As long as she chose them. Poor dear was coming from the Watchtower's rival...how they hate the Catholic church! They needed to quickly take the number of the beast off of her! LOL! Thankfully she found her way out!

Ohhhhh OUtlaw and everyone else....do you remember the smell of those birthday cupcakes?
The ones you couldn't have, and had to politely refuse? The ones that were offered right before the end of the day. And you are 9 or 11 and there won't be any other snacks. Lunch was hours ago. Your stomach is nearly reaching outside of itself to snag one as they pass by. And you are sacrificing satisfying your craving for Jehovah...but you still want it!
Remember not joining choir or the band because of the holiday and patriotic music? How wrong it would have been to travel to the nursing homes to sing carols!
For Halloween, you couldn't color a Jack o'Lantern, but a plain orange pumpkin was alright.
You loved being able to watch the Charlie Brown Christmas special or any other Christmas special that was the only thing on (3-5 channel was all the TV had) because your parents were busy and just decided they'd rather let the TV babysit you?
Going for a drive through the city all lit up with Christmas lights made your heart swell!!! You couldn't say anything, but in the dark, in that backseat, your starving, hungry eyes greedily took it all in. At least mine did. I even had my favorite streets to view...on the way home from meetings many times!
I gave it up at the ripe old age of 9 out of fear and guilt. After all...Paradise was coming!

Renaii...might I suggest the sacred festivals held by the Isrealites. These were events of momentous occasion. They were rituals that were planned greatly in advance and anticipated with much enjoyment. They lasted days. Family gathered, traveling many miles to do so. Temporary places of habitation were erected. It was a time of socialization, relaxment, enjoyment and sacredness. They didn't spend all day in the temple. They put out palms (if memory serves) and gathered on the roof to enjoy. They were for the glory of God and jubilation in his provisions.
Christmas is this to me. We glorify God, rejoice in his provision (Jesus) and congregate with family to share in the triumph and joyfullness. Many songs extol God's glory and rejoice in Christ. Children perform plays based on the most special of all occasions, his birth, and learn to let their hearts rejoice with love and happiness and gratefullness.
The bible says let no one judge another for what day he holds holy. You are not to judge another. Period. Eliminating someone's ability to rejoice in God and the Lord Christ Jesus is...wrong. God says so.
As to the original post...I always longed to join in. Who wouldn't? I always felt outcast and it only made it worse to add this burden of judging others and holding a "holier than thou" attitude. I'll never forget the one time, in 6th grade, I was absent for Valentine's day and my teacher set out a box for me. She gave it to me when I returned. I took them with me to the bathroom to read and devour! To feel included! What a wonderful feelling, even if they were pretty impersonal! I wanted to keep them forever, but knew the punishment I would face for it. I also knew how much trouble I would get in just for reading them. So I threw them away.
I also remember, when teachers handed out Christmas presents to the children, having to refuse. I will always remember my 5th grade teacher who found a way around it, telling me she just wanted to give me a present for being such a nice student. God bless Mrs. Simburg.
For our children, we made our own celebrations. We called them "Family Day" and had them for about a year or two before we finally broke free. It took me until January 2006 to see, with my conscience, there was nothing wrong with Christmas. I wish I could go back and get that done a month sooner! It would mean the world to me. But alas...we had our Family Day that January and our oldest was 7 when she had her first Christmas. Bless her heart. She is my angel. Our youngest was 4 and doesn't remember being denied anything. She however had Kindergarten and half of first grade. But she had her first birthday party at 7 and was so excited to do everything! Valentines 2006 was our first official holiday!

I feel calm when I see wood floors and wicker with white and light blue...I guess it reminds me of the beach. Of course, that's not what I have! LOL!
